All About Jill

Meet Jill Sharp

Ever wondered who creates all those beautiful rooms you see in the Ballard Designs catalog each month?

Meet Jill Sharp Brinson, creative director, resident designer and stylist extraordinaire responsible for Ballard’s signature look for the past 15 years. Jill literally lives for great design. Her spectacular Atlanta home made the December/January 2010 cover of House Beautiful.

In addition to her work with BD, Jill runs her own styling, design and decorating business, and co-owns a highly successful commission art studio with her celebrated photographer/

    Dear Jill.

What is the one decorative thing in your home you could not live without?
I am talking an item, not a person, I know you could never live with Rob:) although he is not actually a thing..but he is decorative:)

Jill … I love your home featured in House Beautiful. I am trying to redecorate and your color palette is just about right on for me and as a matter of fact I have picked paint colors in this palette for my home. I wonder if you would share the name/brand of wallpaper in your office? My living room is long and narrow and the wall at one end runs into a hallway. While, I’ve picked a color (warm) to do a faux painting technique with the intent of the warm color coming forward so that the room doesn’t seem to be quite as long. I’m now considering that wallpaper would do the trick too. Thank you.

JACKI – HEY THERE —SO FUN TO HEAR FROM YOU
I LOVE PATTERN IN LIMITED, WELL-CHOSEN AMOUNTS – IT KINDA ACTS AS A “LOOK AT ME QUICK” TECHNIQUE AS YOU GO THROUGH A SPACE

THAT IS ACTUALLY FABRIC – YES, FABRIC – IN MY OFFICE – EVERYONE THINKS IT IS WALLPAPER – BUT OH, NO —-IT’S CREWEL FABRIC
IT IS A WOVEN WOOL CREWEL PATTERN THAT IS MACHINE (HAND?) STITCHED ONTO A REALLY GREAT HEAVY (KINDA DIVINE) LINEN BURLAP –
I HAD THE FABRIC INSTALLED ON THE WALL, WITH UPHOLSTERY BATTING BEHIND THE FABRIC SO IT TRULY FEELS UPHOLSTERED – I LOVE THE TECHNIQUE – I CAN SEND YOU ANOTHER IMAGE THAT I DID FOR A HOUSE SEVERAL YEARS AGO, THIS TIME WITH A PRINTED TREE ON A TOBACCO BROWN BACKGROUND – SO SO COOL

IT WOULD BE A REALLY INTERESTING CHOICE FOR YOUR ROOM – SEND ME PHOTOS – LET ME LOOK – I’M HAPPY TO PROVIDE INPUT!

I WOULD RECOMMEND TRACKING DOWN SOMEONE THAT HAS UPHOLSTERED A WALL BEFORE – IT TAKES SOME PRIOR EXPERIENCE TO KNOW HOW TO STITCH THE YARDAGE TOGETHER, MAKE ENDLESS QUANTITIES OF SELF-WELT, INSTALL THE INCH AND A HALF THICK BATTING, AND A VERY, VERY, V E R Y PROFESSIONAL TOUCH WITH A STAPLE GUN AND A GLUE GUN –
MAYBE YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO DO TRADE-OUT? A FRIEND OF MINE JUST SWAPPED A MONTH OF DELIVERED DINNERS FOR A SMALL RENO PROJECT!
    NOW — THAT IS CREATIVE!

WE INTRODUCED AN AMAZING CREWEL BEDDING PATTERN AND CREWEL DRAPERY PANELS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO – IT IS IN A FABULOUS, NO-COLOR, LINEN PALETTE – YOU MAY REALLY LOVE THIS. WE DO NOT CURRENTLY OFFER THIS BEDDING FABRIC AS YARDAGE BUT WE HAVE BATTED THE IDEA AROUND THE OFFICE.
UNTIL THEN, THERE ARE GREAT CREWEL FABRICS AVAILABLE ALL OVER THE MARKETPLACE – IF YOU DO SOME RESEARCH, YOU WILL FIND MANY.
NEED FURTHER HELP – LET US KNOW

Jill, tell me about the couch that is shown in your living room. It’s a lovely, unusual shape. Pam

  5. Jacki Blair Says:

Thanks so much for coming back to me so quickly. Even though I love the wall, the fact that it’s fabric lets it out for me – 4 cats! However, I will take you up on sending pictures. I’d love your opinion of my color choices. Jacki
